摘要

MID NORTH, South Australia, farmer Mark Williams has proven that well-suited machinery doesn't have to cost the earth. Williams sows about 480 hectares a year of cereals and pulses on the Windy Ridge property he operates with his wife, Karen, and father, George, at Booborow-ie, about 40 kilometres northeast of Clare in a 400-millimetre rainfall area. With the decline of the wool industry, the William-ses are concentrating more on their cropping operation. This has placed greater pressure on them to increase their crop-growing efficiency. "Because for many years we only did a small amount of cropping, our plant was not all that big and time was not such an important factor," Williams says.
