FARMERS should go to school and learn how futures, options, and forward contracts work before dabbling in price risk management. That advice comes from a lecturer in agribusiness marketing at the University of Sydney's Orange Agricultural College, Peter Woods. Woods has written a 64-page manual that provides farmers with a basic understanding of agricultural risk management including definitions of the most commonly used jargon and an explanation of the workings of futures, options, and forward contracts.
