Balls in Sequence Spaces

A new metric on a space of right-sided infinite sequences drawn from a finite alphabet is proposed. This metric was introduced in the problem of estimating the entropy of discrete stationary processes. It has a number of interesting properties. For example, the measure of a ball is discontinuous at any binary rational value of logr, where r is the radius of the ball.
