The Australian Cattle Veterinarians (ACV) recently held their annual conference in Townsville, north Queensland. Theme of the conference was Surgery and Pathology and included an excellent practical day at the new facilities at the James Cook University Veterinary School. Surgery topics highlighted the possibility of doing more successful surgery on beef cattle, particularly stud and feedlot animals. It is more a paradigm shift on the part of the owners, including early diagnosis and immediately trucking the animal to the veterinarian or calling the veterinarian rather than a problem with success rates.
