Technology's potential to lift the lid on sheep productivity and profitability

AS IN other livestock industries that are achieving tapid gains in productivity (dairy, beef, prime lamb and pigs) it is essential that we measure and use objective data for genetic gain and for all decisions on management inputs. The phenotypic varia tion within each flock with respect to meat, wool and reproductive characteristics suggests that greatest gains in productivity for the sheep industry will come from selecting animals from within a flock and managing them according to their potential and /or their risk.
