Occidental to buy direct air capture startup Carbon Engineering

Occidental Petroleum said Aug. 15 it will buy direct air capture startup Carbon Engineering Ltd. for approximately $1.1 billion as it looks to scale up carbon removal technologies. The US energy company has been partnering with the Canadian tech firm since 2019, through its subsidiary 1PointFive, which focuses on carbon capture and storage technologies such as DAC.
