Consumer demand continues for certified organic foods

The Australian Organic Market Report (AOMR) has been released, and Biological Farmers of Australia chairman Doug Haas says the report will assist stakeholders at all levels to access the current market climate and plan for the future. The report showsstrong growth in many areas of organic production, with six out of every 10 households stating they buy organic products at least occasionally. AOMR contends the current estimate of national farm-gate sales of certified organic produce in Australia is conservatively estimated as $223,224,000, while retail sales have reached $947 million, with an expectation it will pass the $1 billion mark by the end of this year.
