The Grange Merino Stud was established in Western Australia in 1987 by stud principal John Roberts. It was dispersed after Roberts, also founding chairman of Multiplex Constructions, passed away in 2006. By then, it had made remarkable genetic gain using artificial breeding technologies and performance-based index selection. Harry Wilson, who now operates his own breeding services business, conducted most of the artificial breeding programs over the 19 years that The Grange was operating.He managed The Grange Breeding Centre for about eight years in all. Wilson still maintains The Grange database for those who wish to source pedigree information. He recalls that Roberts wanted to become one of the major suppliers of Merino genetics in Australia.
