摘要

Continuing commodity pooling through the single-desk selling system has serious implications for Australian wheat growers. In part two of his review, marketing lecturer John Williams argues commodity pooling through the single-desk selling system is again not in the best long-term interests of Australian wheat growers when domestic issues are considered. The single-desk system consists of one selling agent receiving a fixed fee from growers (about 60 million dollar annually) plus a bonus to meet a minimum price Wheat Industry Benchmark. It assumes one agent can have all global knowledge and skills, perfect information regarding all customers and suppliers, and all the resources (including management, labour and capital) to develop all global markets and food supply chains. Some producers have questioned why this selling agency system needs to have single-desk compulsory legislation if it is 'so good' in exporting wheat.
