FAEMERS and aerial applicators agree — the primary benefit of DGPS to aerial application is that it eliminates the need for flaggers. And, since flaggers are no longer needed, much of the farmer's liability under the Worker Protection Act is nullified. Scheduling between farmer and aerial applicator is no longer needed, so the pilot may plan his runs to suit his schedule and the type of chemical being sprayed. By spraying one chemical on all fields that need it over a given time, the chance of inadvertent mixing of dangerous chemicals is minimised. "It's not only helping us, it's saving the farmer time and money," says Todd Hartley of Hartley Flying Service, Stuttgart, Arkansas.
