Quality issues for big harvest

The winter cereal harvest is now well under way. Barley was the first crop to be harvested followed by wheat in Central Queensland. At this time the harvest has progressed well down into New South Wales. It has commenced on the west coast of South Australia and the upper and mid northern cropping areas. Wheat and barley harvest is in full swing in the Geraldton port delivery zone of Western Australia. Quality for the early deliveries has been good. In the case of wheat, grain protein has been high reflecting the tight growing conditions in the early areas. Test weights have been satisfactory. And in Queensland and northern New South Wales, the early harvest was predominantly cash buying as traders were active in sourcing wheat to service contractsheld with domestic flour mills.
