Cropland management has been severely impacted by recent droughts, but an ongoing transect survey shows an increase in the conservation practice of stubble retention to protect these resources. The Wimmera Cropland Management Survey was developed in 1996 by the then executive of Wimmera Conservation Farming Association (WCFA) and Department of Primary Industry (DPI) agronomists from a need to benchmark the long-term trends in dry land agricultural cropping systems. The survey captures visual data and reflects practices and trends in the management of cropping paddocks as a way of measuring the adoption of Conservation Farming Practices (CFP).
