EVEN with the best intentions, clear and balanced communication can be non-existent when there is emotion involved. An interesting point we neglect to understand is that effective communication is learnt over time, it is not innate in us. A means of overcoming the challenge of better communication is to establish a more formalised strategy for communication within your family farm business. Effective communication is like throwing a ball to each other back and forth. You speak the message and I receive it. When communicating with another, it is important to focus your attention and deliver your words to them in such a way that they will be able to receive your message, like catching a ball.
