THE US Army's 4th Battalion, 2nd Aviation Regiment, at Camp Humphreys, South Korea, moved one step closer to completing its transition to the latest AH-64E Version 6 model of the Apache Guardian on February 16, 2022. Its final AH-64D flight was conducted from Desiderio Army Airfield at Camp Humphreys. Known as the 'Death Dealers', the attack reconnaissance battalion is the first unit based outside the continental US (OCONUS) to receive the V6 model. Fielding of the AH-64Es began in September when crew training began and on November 7 the first examples were delivered to Osan Air Base aboard a USAF C-17A. Once the Apaches were re-assembled they were flown to Camp Humphreys. When the final AH-64D flight took place, the battalion had received 20 of its planned complement of 24 AH-64Es; each of the three attack reconnaissance companies will operate eight AH-64Es.
