Prince Philip died at the age of 99 on 9 April 2021. He was the IMA's seventh President, serving from 1976-1977. Sir Bryan Thwaites, who was the second President of the IMA and is pictured below, writes: By the end of the 1960s it had become clear that the Institute was on course to become a major player in both mathematics and education, and so a small black-tie celebratory dinner was arranged to celebrate the success of its first five years. I well remember it as the first time that we discussed the question of patronage.
