The functionblock-model as a notation is the most common approach for describing control-applications in automation systems. For establishing UML-based methods in this area, it is required to map this domain-specific notation to design-techniques of UML. As a first step it is necessary to define a common function-block-model based on industrial specifications and technologies. Finally with the help of a technolgy-independed model of software components, the mapping to UML can be done. Thus objectoriented methods for developing control systems could be used in industrial applications.
