Stud and commercial Wiltshire Horn and Poll Wiltshire cleanskin sheep have dramatically increased profits and reduced labour for Brian and Jill Wilson at their mixed property Byarlea in South Australia. Jill Wilson estimates that the net profits for their farming business of a Wiltshire enterprise may be three times the net profits of a Merino enterprise. "We found lambing percentages for Wiltshires were 125%-150% compared with Merinos, which were approximately 80%," she says. "Wiltshires have no shearing, crutching or flies; they are better mothers; the lamb sales are excellent; and the labour and expenses for Wiltshires is by far less than having Merinos."
