Last season's late year rally for the EYCI was the result of a number of factors, including a combination of strong international demand for beef coinciding with tight global supply, Figure "I.The indicator had been tracking close to the five-year average until early August and, rather than falling due to the spring flush of cattle onto the markets, continued to strengthen all the way to the new year (albeit with a small dip in the middle), peaking at 390 cents a kg dressed weight.
