Never before has what we eat been so highly critiqued by consumers, and select growers are jumping on the bandwagon to grow cereal grain bred for its nutritional benefits. CSIRO's late-1990s research of barley lines for those with potential to improvehealth yielded one particular gem - a barley grain that went on to become BARLEYmax. In August last year, Goodness Superfoods launched two cereals containing the variety, BARLEYmax - Protein First and Digestive First - and with early sales figures auguring well, growers in the supply chain are set to benefit.
