Compared to 2005-06 when some major pastoral land transactions were completed, the past 12 months have been quiet in real estate terms for Australia's largest landholders. S Kidman & Co continues to dominate land ownership, table 1, with landholdingsincreasing to 12.8 million hectares, putting it well ahead of the closest contender, the Australian Agricultural Company Ltd (AACo). This year's increase is mainly due to S Kidman & Co obtaining medium to longer term sub-leases over Nappa Merrie Stationin the Qld Channel Country and Carranya Station in the East Kimberley of WA. The Tungali feedlot, purchased in August 2006, has worked well, feeding 3,000 steers for the Japanese 120 day grain fed market but CEO Greg Campbell said "at present grain prices, it will not be refilled with cattle until at least after the summer grain harvest".
