The prospects for Australian cattle prices going forward are not good as good as we have come to expect. We have recently enjoyed feeder steer prices above 2.00 dollar per kilogram in the good years and although in 2002 and 2006 we did have lower prices, the market fundamentals always suggested a return to good prices once the season recovered. Looking forward, the cattle market and cattle producers need to adjust to a post-BSE era with lower cattle prices and tougher trading conditions.
