Solar pump needs no batteries

A SIMPLE, solar-powered water reticulation system that uses a submersible bore pump to draw water from a river has underpinned the stock and domestic water supply on a north coast NSW grazing property. The cost of installing the system has been kept relatively low as no battery pack is being used. Howard and Lynette Mitchell have installed the system on their 416-hectare vealer-producing property 'Clunsley at Ellenborough in the Hastings Valley. Working through the local Hastings Forbes River Landcare Group, the project attracted funding aid with a dollar-for-dollar grant from the Commonwealth Government Envirofund in 2004.
