Aseries of Virtual Shepherd tools is being developed by a sheep producers' group from the Esperance region of Western ustralia to lift lamb and wean-er production. The Association of Sheep Husbandry Excellence, Evaluation and Production (A-SHEEP)'s chairman, Geoff Tidow, says the initiative came in response to a knowledge gap in the area's young farmers. "Many growers went out of sheep and concentrated on cropping when the wool market collapsed and consequently lost touch with the day-to-day jobs that need doing during the breeding cycle," he says.
