FLORET seed is seed still in the husk. The floret seed of native grasses is light and often hairy and readily bridges in conventional seed drills. In its efforts to promote the wide use of native grasses, the Native Grass Resources Group (NGRG) secured funding for the development of a drill to handle floret seed. John Stafford, of Vegetation Management Services and a member of NGRG in South Australia, devised a tractor-mounted unit that used vibration and damp sawdust to meter and carry the seed. Dampening the florets effectively slicked down the hairs and overcame the bridging.
