Domestic grain pricing likely to improve on both coasts

AT TIMES there are big grain price differences between Queensland and Western Australia. As the autumn of 2004 comes to a close, there are very different conditions for the two states in relation to the domestic grain market. In WA, the local industryis still in the process of absorbing the surplus grain from the record harvest of 2003. With the wheat harvest totalling some 10 6 million tonnes last year, there was some grain that was affected by late rain and sufficiently shot and sprung that the AWB Golden Rewards program did not encourage its delivery to the pool. These wheat parcels, with low falling number tests, are still in growers' hands and awaiting a place with local intensive livestock producers.
