In the second article in the series previewing 21st century beef production, Greg Chappell emphasises the importance of holism and what this means in terms of land, people and price. The goal statement for beef production discussed in the February issue of Australian Farm Journal should help beef producers identify the production-related challenges confronting them into the new century. This statement encourages a holistic approach with measurement focusing on optimums rather than maximums and minimums. But the holistic approach is not complete without investigating sustainability issues. The key words for consideration from the sustainability perspective include land, people, price and land.
