A COUPLE of years ago, when he was the Shadow Minister for Primary Industries (in the rather substantial shadow of then Minister Bob Collins), John Anderson put out a shock-horror press release claiming that farmers were dropping off like flies all over Australia. It's not that they were dying (although some were, of course, but no more than usual). The problem was, the number of farms blanketing our wide, brown land had suddenly plunged during Labor's years in office. Anderson's aim was to lay on Labor the blame for the claim that in five short years, 50,000 farmers had left the land.
