Canada's Environmental Farm Plan builds on past success

For years Canada's Environmental Farm Plan (EFP) which began in Ontario has been applauded as the way forward for credible recognition of farmer's efforts as responsible ecosystem stewards. Treena Hein reports that EFP adoption is growing across Canada and is developing links with branded food. In Australia the Environment Best Management Program modelled on the Canadian plan is languishing in Victoria. The success of Canada's internationally-recognised Environmental Farm Plan program continues, dueits strong farmer-driven philosophy, voluntary participation, peer-reviewed evaluation and proven track record. Although a few scattered privately managed environmental plans were available in the early part of this decade across the country, the EFP program is the only one in widespread use today.
