摘要

Australia's fertiliser market has recently been the subject of intense scrutiny because of the dominance of major players. But the outcome of two major inquiries has produced mixed results. A Federal Senate Select Committee on Agricultural and RelatedIndustries found evidence of stockpiling, price gouging, uncertain pricing and failure to honour contracts. But an Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) report handed down in July last year found there was no collusion or cartel behaviour in the market. The inquiries haven't altered the perception that a lack of competition in the fertiliser market is hurting smaller distributors and farmers who buy from them.
