Australian wool push into Indonesia

INDONESIA could become a major player in the Australian wool market, buying up to 300 million dollar worth annually, according to the International Wool Secretariat (IWS). This follows encouraging feedback received from recent marketing pushes into Indonesia culminating in an industry seminar and fashion parade held in Jakarta in June. The seminar was a result of several years of carefully planned research into the Indonesian textile market that identified key areas where Australian wool could be used. Current Indonesian consumption of Australian wool is 1500 tonnes a year, comprising mostly wool tops with some scoured wool and finished garments. The IWS aims to lift this to 6000 tonnes annually by the year 2000.
