Premix takes worry out of grain feeding

THE NEW Eskalin premix has taken the worry out of feeding grain to cattle for one producer in Western Australia's south west. Tom Grisdale at Margaret Biver began using Eskalin or virginiamy-cin in trials with Agriculture WA in January 1995. The previous spring was poor and 80% of his autumn-1994-drop Simmental and Simmental-cross steer weaners and cull heifers were not finished. In a normal season 70% would be finished, leaving only about 30 to finish on grain in self feeders in an opportunity feedlot on the property.
