Herbicides still the key to sunflower weed control

SUNFLOWER growers are faced with a lack of "practical" in-ciop broad-leaf herbicide options. An important outcome is that growing sunflowers can lead to a build-up in the weed seed bank with implications for future crops within the farming system. The Department of Primary Industries and Fisheries weed agronomy team in central Queensland is conducting crop-weed competition studies in sunflower with an overall focus to develop effective integrated weed management strategies.
