Concentrate on higher performing pastures

NATIVE grasslands may be desirable for the ecological health of a farm or catchment but this does not mean they will contribute profit to the farm business. On the NSW southern tablelands, near Cooma, Ross and Liz Sherlock are the fourth generation ofa family that has run a grazing business on the 1875-hectare property 'Kiora'. With 50% of the property comprising untouched native grasslands and a livestock carrying capacity around 1.5 dry sheep equivalents a hectare, a new approach was needed to maintain a viable business.
