This Art Deco-style cinema was built in 1935 and typifies the plight of Australia's few surviving picture palaces. Major film distributors stipulate that first-film releases must run for six weeks, at least three times a day. There is not the demand in country regions for such exposure and the National Trust has been urging distributors to relax this policy designed for modern, multiplex cinemas. Operators of these heritage theatres desperately need support from the community and the film industry in their battle to survive.
