The UK's newly-appointed Energy Secretary Claire Coutinho has officially recognised the $24.5bn world's longest subsea cable plan which will transfer renewables from Morocco's Southern region to the UK as a project of national significance, Morocco's state agency MAP said in a statement. According to the statement, Coutinho believes the project could play a pivotal role in fulfilling the UK's carbon emissions reduction commitments while ensuring a secure, reliable and affordable energy supply for consumers. The move will allow the planning application for a converter station at Alverdiscott to go ahead. The station is essential for transferring power into the grid.
