The US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission needs to improve its engagement with environmental justice communities and develop clear policy guidance on such matters for energy project developers, stakeholders told the commission during a day-long forum on the issue held March 29. A recurring theme was that FERC should ensure consideration of environmental justice matters does not become a ‘check-thebox’ exercise and that project reviews should consider of past injustices and cumulative harms.
