French Govt backs genetic effort

TWO FEATURES stand out about the French genetic improvement program. The first is that cattle genetic improvement is enshrined in government legislation (enacted in 1966), so the beef cattle industry is compelled to run a program to improve cattleperformance and beef eating quality which benefits both French farmers and consumers. The second is that organisations independent of breed societies play a role in collecting, monitoring and publishing data used for identifying, monitoring and assessing cattle.
