VICTORIAN Mallee farmer, Cameron Barber, 24, is adamant that both a hands-on and a theoretical understanding of farming practices is required to improve efficiency and profitability. Barber has returned to the family farm, near Birchip, after graduating in 1994 with a Bachelor of Agricultural Science degree from the University of Melbourne. He says his parents encouraged him to stay at school and attend university to gain background knowledge that could not be obtained on the farm.
