Savings may be had in native grasses

THE PROFITABILITY of maintaining native grasslands may be greater than many think. Environmental economist at the University of Melbourne, Jim Crosthwaite, is currently quantifying the economic benefits and costs of alternative uses of native pasture. Crosthwaite has a particular interest in native grasslands which have some conservation value, nevertheless the study is relevant to the management of all types of native pastures, including sown native pastures.
