Islands of habitat in a sea of pines

THE TUMUT pine plantation system is like a giant experiment. Within the pine system are patches of native forest, ranging from a half hectare to 200 hectares, which have been isolated and fragmented for almost 60 years. Given field surveys show that very few animals occur in the pine forests, the remnant patches of forest provide fascinating snapshots of wildlife survival.
