摘要

WHEN Australia signed the GATT world trade agreement earlier this decade, the signs looked good for farmers. The Americans, Europeans, Japanese and South Koreans had all conceded trade protection imposts - at no apparent cost to Australia's unprotected farmers. But now it is the Australians calling for protection - not from French lamb producers or Amerrcan grarnfarmers, but from a flood of import applications which industry groups claim are putting at risk Australia's status as a disease and pest free natron.
