THE FIRST time Don Eckersley visited Surabaya was in 1944 as Warrant Officer Eckersley, He was the navigator of one of the RAAF's new state-of-the-art Liberator bombers. The last time Eckersley travelled to Surabaya was in mid-1995, this time as a passenger in a Boeing jet and in his capacity as the head of a trade mission from West Australia. His task was to seek markets for the new horticultural industries of Harvey, his home town an hour-and-a-half south of Perth.
