PLANTATIONS of the fodder tree, Tagasaste, are thriving on farming land north of Perth controlled by the family of the late Western Australian "bush baron", Sir James McCusker. McCusker, a banker, land developer and farmer, died last year, but his business empire, including his extensive rural holdings, collectively called the Martindale group - 16,000 hectares of farming country spread across five farms 100-150 kilometres north of Perth and 750,000ha of pastoral land (Boolardy and Landor stations) - is being continued by his family.
