摘要

A HIGHLY successful agricultural extension program that has operated in South Australia for the past five years promises to bring mixed farmers an additional 10 million dollar a year. By encouraging farmers in both the cereal/sheep zones and high-rainfall zones of SA to adopt later-lambing practices, Primary Industries SA expects an extra 200 million dollar to flow to farmers' pockets during the next 20 years. The biggest selling point of the campaign is that farmers can increase their profitability- by as much as 18,000 dollar a year in some cases - without any financial outlay. In fact in most cases all that is requited is a break with tradition The success of the program and its economic benefits have only recently been quantified by agricultural consultants Agricultural Risk Management Pty Ltd (ARM), which undertook a detailed evaluation early in 1996.
