WASHINGTON-The pace of importing tires into the U.S.ramped up measurably in the second quarter, leading to double-digit increases in the number of passenger, light and medium/heavy truck tires imported through the first six months of 2022.When contrasted with the industry's relatively conservative shipment forecast for 2022,it leads to the conclusion that imported tires will take an even greater share of the U.S.tire market overall this year.Amid all the heady growth numbers culled from the Commerce Department data, one stands out:Imports of medium truck/bus tires in the second quarter shot up 46.9 percent over the corresponding 2021 period, leading to a 28.5-percent increase for the half-year.
