摘要

In recent decades, artificial nerve scaffolds have become a promising substitutefor peripheral nerve repair. Considerable efforts have been devotedto improving the therapeutic effectiveness of artificial scaffolds. Amongnumerous biomaterials for tissue engineering scaffolds fabrication, naturalpolymers are considered as tremendous candidates because of their excellentbiocompatibility, low toxicity, high cell affinity, wide source, and environmentalprotection. With the development of engineering technology, a varietyof natural polymer-derived nerve scaffolds have emerged, which are endowedwith biological properties and appropriate physicochemical performances togradually adapt to the needs of nerve regeneration. Significantly, the intergradationof exogenous biomolecules onto the artificial scaffolds is able to avoidlow stability, rapid degradation, and redistribution of direct therapeutic drugsin vivo, thereby enhancing nerve regeneration and functional reconstruction.Here, the development of nerve scaffolds derived from natural polymers, andtheir applications in continuous administration and peripheral nerve regenerationare comprehensively and carefully reviewed, providing an advancedperspective of the field.
