China’s Jan-May imports of bauxite rise

China’s bauxite imports rose by 8.6pc in the first five months of 2023, while imports of alumina fell by 4.3pc during the same period, according to customs data. The country imported 60.6mn t of bauxite, the feedstock for alumina production, during January-May, up from 55.8mn t in the same period of last year. Shipments from Indonesia fell by 82pc year-on-year to 1.88mn t.
