In the first issue of July 1996, our comment piece discusses the CBI/Natwest survey that we report conveys a positive message for investment in innovation in the UK. However, we note it remains more important to produce than to invent, and it will be some years before the companies, or the UK as a whole, are able to identify the benefits or take advantage of this investment.
