Traffic state analysis on the basis of floating-car-data

In the nearer future individual vehicles will serve as mobile traffic sensors. Equipped with GSM mobile radio and traffic telematic instruments they transmit their place and a profile of their driven velocities to the traffic control centre. These data will be added to local loop-data in order to receive a traffic state analysis. This article deals with a method to estimate traffic state on a freeway section with the Extended Kalman-Filter.
