Macy's is touting the ratio of fresh goods flowing into stores for the holiday shopping season - even as it acknowledges it is still clearing out some categories of goods.More than half of the department store chain's merchandise will be new, according CEO Jeff Gennette. The company was able to pump the breaks earlier than some of its competitors when it detected signs of trouble in credit card spending."There were real customer signals about slow-downs in the casual categories. So we put on the breaks very quickly with our private brands and our market brands. And then you had all these signals of unmet demand that was going on in the dress-up categories. So we worked with our partners and we just massively started to accelerate receipts on that," Gennette said on a "Mad Money" broadcast last month.
